VLX for ARM
VLX for ARM allows multiple execution environments to simultaneously run on a single ARM processor core. The secure, fault tolerant architecture enables the isolation of each execution environment, allowing phone services, trusted services, or device management functions to run unaffected by potential corruptions in an open OS such as Linux and its applications. This high-performance, real-time virtualization solution is targeted at wireless devices using ARMŪcore-based system-on-a-chip (SoC).
VLX for ARM supports the following platforms:
- ARM 9
- ARM 11
- Cortex A8
- Cortex A9 MP
VLX for ARM maintains real-time operating system (RTOS) performance guarantees, allowing handset manufacturers and wireless operators to deliver more reliable, lower-cost mobile phones with advanced features to the mass market.
VLX for ARM Benefits
- Enables use of rich operating systems on a single ARM core architecture without the need to modify existing modem software.
- Isolates proprietary core functionality, management, and security operations from open source software. This provides protection from open source licensing requirements and potential malware that is based on publicly available source code.
- Provides device management functions such as OS monitoring and automatic restart, allowing the system to be repaired or restored independently of the rich OS. This creates a fault-tolerant architecture by maintaining core phone services in case of a failure of the rich OS.
- Enables the mobile handset to include trusted services such as security agents, access control, and authentication independently of the rich OS.
